ABOUT THE YASURAGI DOJO
OUR DOJO MISSION STATEMENT
The Yasuragi Dojo is a school of Traditional Japanese Martial Arts, teaching the traditions of our teacher, Manaka Unsui and the International Jinenkan organization.
Our Dojo preserves the arts of Ninpo, Jujutsu, Kenjutsu and Classical Weaponry.
Collectively, our art is called Jissen Kobudo.
We have proudly served the Hudson Valley of New York since 1998, with our Dojo located in the hamlet of Mahopac. Classes are open to children, adults and families of all skill levels. We have served our global community of students and training groups through our online programs since 2007.
ABOUT THE JINENKAN
The Yasuragi Dojo in Mahopac, New York is one school within an international network of schools in eight countries teaching the traditional arts of the Jinenkan. Developed by Retired Lieutenant Colonel Fumio Manaka, the international Jinenkan organization is a complete martial art system characterized by it’s traditions of authentic Kobudo, the classical fighting forms of Japan’s Samurai.
The primary goal of the Jinenkan martial arts practitioner is self preservation and to develop an understanding of natural movement and response to all that they do; to be non-forceful and to use strategy, distancing and timing to overcome any opponent.
Training at the our Dojo not only involves the learning of highly effective methods of personal protection, but provides each adult student with an unbroken and documented chain of study which stems back over five hundred years. You will understand the true elements of classical Japanese warrior craft and history.

THE YASURAGI DOJO LOGO
Taken from the cover of a book, Adam Mitchell purchased at an antique book store in Japan, the "Kikusui" logo literally translates to “Chrysanthemum water”. It's original reference is to a Chinese legend and Japanese noh theater play, attributing eternal youth to drinking the morning dew from chrysanthemum leaves.
The adoption of this logo in 2022, calls forward our commitment to preserving the Japanese tradition (represented by the Chrysanthemum) of traditional martial arts, along an unbroken stream of teaching (represented by the flowing water) by our teacher, Unsui Sensei and the schools of Kobudo he has taught to us.
Our area of the Hudson Valley was heavily mined for iron ore between 1810 and 1900, leaving deposits of rusted iron throughout the hills in Putnam County, NY. This color represents our part of New York, and the tradition of 'rusted iron' found within our soil.
